Hands-down.. comedies are best for date movies (when you are first dating someone). Comedies leave you feeling great, and get both of you laughing. Dramas can be too intense and girlie-flicks can make things awkward (especially if there is an intense love scene).
I remember going to see American Pie with a date. We were both rolling on the floor, laughing. I ended up marrying him.
