You ever notice that some actors almost always play the same basic person (think John Wayne, who was always John Wayne no matter the movie), and others can slip into any role and make it unique?
Ben Stiller is always the same person in every film--you could probably select random scenes from his movies and edit them together and you'd never see the difference in the characters.
Johnny Depp's characters are nothing alike: Cap'n Jack is nothing like Edward Scissorhands, who is nothing like Inspector Abberline or Ichabod Crane.
