George Clooney has tried to be different in his films. Going from comedies like "O Brother Where Art Thou?" to actually changing his appearance for "Syriana". But I think his problem is that he's just too identifiable as George Clooney. He's a lead actor, and that sort of thing works best for supporting actors (though he did win his "Syriana" oscar in the supporting category).
I think Sean Penn tries way too hard to be different in each film and he comes off as being a phony.
As for someone that's too repetitive, I'd pick Jack Nicholson. He's made a string of movies where he was just a cranky old bastard. Though I did think he was great in "The Departed". |
