Book or movie?

Often when I read a book first and then go see the movie, I am disappointed. The characters or setting are not as imagined they would be. On the other hand, if I see movie and don't really like it, I lose interest in reading the book. What do you usually do - see the book or movie first?

Because I am such a reader I usually always buy the book first. But you're right that the books are not as good as the movie. Everyonce in awhile I will see a movie first but that is usually because I was unaware that a book had been out first.

I always prefer to read a book first. This way, I can imagine the entire story in my mind. I, in essence, "create" the movie in my own mind. Too often, the movie ends up letting me down when the movie director/producer has a different take on it.

I usually prefer the book, and there have been times when I've read a book after the movie. I find they've done a very good job on the Harry Potter series, and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, but often too much gets missed in the translation from page to screen.

Books are usually so in depth on imagery and detail. They rarely ever get that same "feel" to them as the books. I agree, Quiet, they did do well with LW&W. I haven't seen any, or read any, Harry Potter, so I don't know about them.

There aren't many movies that can live up to a book you've liked. Sometimes, I find though that if I didn't like a book ...like Cold Mountain ...the film can be really good.

For me, if I didn't like the book, chances are I won't bother with the movie. However, I had a hard time with "Ghost Story" when I read it, and found the movie made ever so much more sense. When I reread the book later, having seen the movie helped the book make sense as well. LOL.

That can be true too ...my theory is that books take a lot longer to read than it takes to see a movie, so if anything, I'm more selective about books than films lol.

I always try to read the book first. I like to see the movie later and see how they did certain parts of the book. It seems less of a spoiler to watch than to read when you know what is going to happen.

There are a few times when seeing the movie made me buy the book....Harry Potter is a prime example. Other than that, I generally read the book first.
