Taking cue from Penguins post, I think sequels tend to lose out to the first movies. Examples are: 1. Starship Troppers 2. Dumb & Dumber 3. Speed Exceptions are: 1. Terminator 2. Matrix 3. Star Wars (sorry... ) | ||

| Well a lot of sequels try to play on the "true and tried" elements, but the problem is that it becomes repetitive, or else they run out of things to do. American Pie 2 was also good, although Wedding sucked horribly. | ||

| Movie Critic | Generally, from my observation, unless there was a sequel planned in the first place, anything that follows has been lashed together to try and continue the story in a way that should be the same, but is inherently inferior... On that subject, saw a cutout for Miss Congeniality 2 when I went to see Million Dollar Baby last night, now let's take how bad the first one was, multiply it by the sequel factor and you get... You guessed it - Cash-in!

| Movie Critic | Yeah, apparently the Matrix was only supposed to be one, then they wrote another, and padded that story out to make a trilogy, because then it becomes a series rather than a couple of movies...

| Movie Critic | Yeah, trilogies can work, as long as it's not tagged together... Like LOTR for example being filmed together, with the intention of splitting it up across 3. Would have been interesting to see how many people would have seen it if they'd released it as a 9-10 hour beast of a movie...

| Our local cinema did in fact screened the LOTR trilogy in one go.. that's like a 9 hours movie marathon... Yup, that's what the cinema did.. they called it LOTR marathon... ticket prices were quadrupled and screening was once a day for 7 days.... Needless to say, tickets were all sold out... One friend of mine went twice... What a nutcase!! | ||

| Lord of the Rings could only be done as a trilogy. Didn't do a bad job of it either. Mind you, I had to sit through the Return of the King twice, and the second time I practically fell asleep. Good films, but don't see watch them again until at least six months after the last viewing. If you know what I mean.
