Taxi Driver: 2?

I was just surfing the net and discovered this.
I wasn't sure on where to put it as it was a rumor, and Coming Soon didn't seem appropriate.

Quote:
Screen legend Robert De Niro has reunited with iconic director Martin Scorsese to work on a sequel to their classic movie Taxi Driver. The Oscar-winning actor, who starred as disturbed Vietnam veteran Travis Bickle in the 1976 film, has confirmed the movie veterans are mulling over script ideas for a follow-up to the gritty original. Apart from his comedy turn in Meet The Parents and its recent sequel Meet The Fockers, De Niro has starred in a series of flop films - and critics are hoping Travis Bickle's resurrection will restore his reputation as one of the greatest dramatic actors of all time. De Niro, 61, says, "I was talking with Martin Scorsese about doing what I guess you'd call a sequel to Taxi Driver, where he is older."
Thoughts?

Yeah, read either that article or one that had the same content to it a while back, and I'm veeeery unsure as to whether they're gonna be able to pull it off.

I just can't envisage Travis Bickle in his 60s being an interesting film concept... As news comes out with any general plot/conceptual details I'll make a bit more of an informed decision, but it seems like a bit of a weird project to do in my opinion.

I've never seen the original Taxi, so I can't say much, other than that I've heard it was quite good.

The first one is the film that I'd cite whenever anyone asks why De Niro gets such high praise from his contemparies/critics...

The plot isn't mind-blowingly brilliant, but the performance is absolutely captivating. Apparently he spent 6 months actually driving a New York taxi in preparation for the role...

Geez, that's wild.

It was suppose to be scary, correct?
As that is what I heard.

I couldn't see him do a Taxi cab driver role now though.
Kinda seems past him. I guess.

I'd say captivating, but it is intense enough to be scary... That's just my take on it anyway, get a copy if you can, or even rent it just to see it, 'tis rather fantastic...

Ya, I think I'll pick it up this weekend.

My parents were saying that it was quite good, and scary.

Well, my point is...Marty and DeNiro are still in shape...and they are good as hell...so let them try...anyhow, Taxi Driver is always gonna be Taxi Driver...the first and only will never change, so just take it as another scorsese-deniro project together...
It can't be worse than all the rest...
