Does anyone else miss the drive ins? We do still have one not to far away from us and we are taking the boys there to see Shrek 3. They have no idea what a drive in so this should be fun. I just wish that they would come back in because this one is about 40 minutes away.

| I remember going to a drive-in as a kid. We'd load into my uncle's pickup and all go to the movies. It was SO much fun, especially when the weather was nice. We'd get popcorn, cuddle up and enjoy the show. I just loved it! I was SO sad when the one in my hometown burned down. | ||

I think a drive-in would be fun, but I also like what I saw in Prague. I lived there for a year, and about once a month I would go to the Kino/kavarna. These are small, cosy theatres where round tables are scattered strategically around the room so people won't have to peer over anyone's head. No rows, no stumbling past people to get to your seat. You would sit comfortably at the table and be able to sip cofee and eat pastry or something more substantial while watching a movie. As far as I know, we don't have such a thing in North America. Even in Prague it was mostly the artsier films that played in this type of theatre.

| I've never been to a drive in, even though there was one just down the street for years. It just closed last fall. We had a theater sort of like that one you described Lyndsey. It was in a mall and for a long time was just a standard theater. But as newer and bigger ones got built nearby, it's business dwindled. So they converted the seats into tables and served food there. I think that only lasted about a year or so before it just closed down entirely and got built into a sporting goods store. I don't really care for either of those styles. My favorite is the Cinemark. 24 screens, stadium seating, it's perfect. I've read about some really upscale theaters in the southern US. I wouldn't mind going to one of them. I think I saw a headline for an article somewhere today about someone in California trying to bring drive-in's back. I'll have a look for it. | ||

| I don't miss drive-ins. They were fun when I was a kid, but the sound quality always sucked and the car stank of popcorn the next day lol. NYC has a similar cafe/threatre type thing. It's small but can be a lot of fun and is just different. | ||

| I live about 25 minutes from 3 different drive ins. I love them. You get 2 movies for pretty cheap, you can take your own snacks and you can get out and stretch if you need to. And best of all, I can actually go to the movies. I havent been since the baby was born last fall. I can take him to the drive in with us, I would never be brave enough to try to take an infant to the theater. | ||
