K, got round to seeing this on Saturday, and to be honest it was good, but I was a touch underwhelmed... Can't say I've read the book, heard the radio show, or seen the TV series, but there was just that something missing that stopped it from being just funny on to being hysterical...

Also, I thought Bill Bailey could've been used better, I know he's supposed to be acting, but the role just didn't seem to suit him, because it was about making sense of things as opposed to his typical bewilderment...

Anywho, seeing as i gave Almost Famous a score, might as well carry on the process: 7/10

As someone who read the books, saw the original TV series (currently being repeated on BBC2 btw) and has exactly the same sense of humour as Douglas Adams seemed to, I loved the film, but I can see how it might not be to everyone's taste.
And in my opinion, A whale who suddenly appears in mid-air and has just a few seconds to discover the entire world is near perfect casting for someone with the surreal nature of Bill Bailey. For me "Hello Ground" has to be the best line I'll hear in any film this year.

PS: Any news on the main site yet?

I dunno, it's a similar sense of humour to mine too, just it didn't seem to work for me... Been discussing it with several people recently, seeing as I'm the only one who's had a luke-warm response to it... Now don't get me wrong, I've recommended it to anyone who's asked, but the conclusion I came to was that Martin Freeman just wasn't a strong enough lead to sell the story to me, he did a decent job, but he was outclassed left right and centre....

My conclusion on the Bill Bailey bit was that it was Bill Bailey acting, which isn't a bad thing, but he's in his element when he's playing characters that aren't miles away from his stand-up persona, such as Manny in Black Books and Bilbo in Spaced... And I'd wait for Kung Fu Hustle next month before I'd give any best line awards, coz that has the potential to be fantastic...

Also, on the site, I was told the other night that it's probably going to be getting sold on for development by someone else, though there's no actual plans in motion at the minute as far as I know...

Yeah...I did hear a (frankly terrifying) rumour that for the inevitable sequel, some Hollywood bigwig had decided to replace Martin Freeman with Bruce Willis

Of course I can't see that ever actually happening, but this was just one of the more extreme examples that show they are considering changing things around a bit.

I'm not really bothered as long as they chose someone who can bring a certain amount of subtlety to the role, and as long as they keep Stephen Fry as the Book.

Yeah, Stephen Fry was perfectly cast... I know it's probably me just showing favouritism, but I think Simon Pegg would've pulled off the role of Arthur a lot better...
