yes i agree with you that the downside of this film was the lack of action... but i think there's a deeper meaning to it though...

i don't know why, but i find all kind of war films very nice be it present or past warfares... this one too! hope more films like this one will come out in the near future...

I haven't seen the movie, but I know that the main thing about it was that the main character wanted to see action but he never actually did (isn't that what happened?)

I think that's an intelligent change to the regular action-packed war film. Don't get me wrong, I probably wouldn't like Jarhead because it doesn't have action, but to a more sophisticated movie viewer, they would probably look at it that way.
