I liked it a lot. The plot was thin, but the movie was fun and we all enjoyed it. The costumes were good, the special effects were really good (I loved the crabs, especially when they all opened up and there was one on his back having issues getting turned over). LOVED Keith Richards as Cap'n Jack's dad--been waiting to see him for ages in this role.

And yes, it left it open for a sequel, but it didn't have the cliffhanger ending that the second one did which demanded a third. They can stop here and it'll be fine, or they can go on. I don't think it compares with the Matrix trilogy, where the second movie could have been pared down to about 30 minutes without losing any of the story, and combined with the third, which also needed to be trimmed. That was an excellent idea that they failed to follow through with competently. I think the Pirate movies all hold up well and keep the flavour of the first.

I really think they could have combined 2 and 3 into one halfway decent movie. There are long scenes that could have been cut without hurting the story at all. Like in "Dead Man's Chest", the whole sequence on Cannibal Island could have been cut. And in this one, the opening scene (which I'm amazed they got away with) could have been gone. Some characters could have been deleted without any loss, like Sao Feng, and others could have been better developed.

I was expecting more from Keith Richards. He looked like Captain Morgan and he had no spark at all. He could have been over the top and it would have been fine.

If he was over the top, it might have explained some of Cap'n Jack's idiosyncrasies. That scene in the brig of Davy Jones' ship was something else. He definitely has a few screws loose!

Exactly! He was too dull. If he'd pranced around or did something comical it would have been better. I'm not even sure he was awake for some of his scenes.

He's been in the land of the dead, remember. That has to take its toll on your sanity, regardless of how stable you were to begin with, and Jack Sparrow wasn't the most stable person in the first place. LOL. I loved his hallucinations. As I said--the plot wasn't all that strong, but it was still fun to watch.

I go to movies for entertainment. If I want depth, I go to a lecture at a university. This movie was fun and light and I had a great time.

Hmm, can't say I agree with the "fun & light" statement. Especially given the first scene of the movie with the little boy.

It's a Disney movie how far off can it be from fun and light?

If you haven't seen it, that opening scene was a bit of a shock (to me at least). And the ending made everything seem kind of pointless.

i enjoyed the movie. i saw it a few weeks ago. the graphics in the movie were brilliant, thought the storyline was niether here nor there, the movie was unnecessarily long, none the less it was entertaining. Johnny Depp was fantastic. Orlando Bloom looked georgous as Capt. Will Turner.
