What do people make of him?

I personally have started to appreciate the presence that he brings to the screen recently, having seen his roles in such films as Scarface and The Insider, and there are probably few that could ever hope to upstage him...

Why did he choose to do Gigli though?

I regard him as a bit like Robert De Niro, in that he did some fantastic films in the 80s, such as Scarface, but recently he seems to be less picky about his roles and has made some pretty poor films as a result. Which is a shame because you're right, he dos lend a certain presence to his films in general

Al Pacino is one of the finest actors around, still is. He is fantastic along with the likes of DeNiro and Nicholson. Pacino's finest performance was in Dog Day Afternoon, but The Godfather is certainly up there with his best work.
