Best of British movies?

In your opinion, which movie is the best movie ever produced by the British? If I'm not mistaken, The Full Monty was a British movie and that's the only movie I could think of...

The best I can think of off the top of my head would be Clockwork Orange, and while The Full Monty was vaguely entertaining, it's by no means the best of British in my opinion

Can't say that I've watched the movie, Clockwork Orange, but I will definitely check it out... anyone else?

Recently, there's not been much choice for solely British films. Shaun of the Dead was great, but personally I've always had a fondness for "The Wicker Man" - A 1970s horror/mystery/thriller about paganism starring Christopher Lee and the fantastically named Edward Woodward

Thanks for jolting my brains there ZaWolven, Johnny English was pretty entertaining, so was Mr. Bean - The Movie...

Ah yes, Wicker Man... That's pretty good, saw that ages ago... I try and avoid movies starring Rowan Atkinson in his idiot roles though, he's much better in Blackadder (which is a comedy TV series, but is still vastly superior to the aforementioned films)

I agree - he was a lot better before he started "dumbing down" as it were. Bean is good enough if I'm in the mood but Blackadder is right up there with Fawlty Towers as one of the best comedy programmes ever made. He was good in "Not The Nine O'Clock News" too. I'd like to see some reapeats of that sometime, it hasn't been on in ages.

Sorry...may have wandered slightly off-topic there...incidentally did you hear Hollywood's at it again. It seems they're remaking The Wicker Man for an American audience - with Nicolas Cage taking the Edward Woodward role. If that works we're all DOOMED

Wow, that could be terrifying...ly bad... Dunno, can't get away with Cage, I always find him very bland...

I've never had a problem with Cage as an actor. He may not be the most emotional actor in the world but I like to see someone who can take on a variety of roles from the action hero to the romantic lead.

My worry with this remake is not Cage but that it simply can't be done without losing all of the eccentricities and shock value of the original.

Yeah, you'll lose the shock value of the original mainly because you've already seen what's going to happen... Might be a bit obvious, but then again that's why remakes suck... Haven't seen the US sequel yet, but I know when I saw The Ring a.k.a Ringu remade, it was crap because i knew what to expect and when...
