Pursuit of Happyness

I wanted to start up a discussion about this emotionally powerful movie. Has anyone else here seen it?

I think it is truly Will Smith at his best.

What I love about this movie is that it is truly a story of someone working his way up on his own. So many people seem to feel down and out, and think there is no hope. Yet, look at this man! He was homeless and still managed to become very successful with VERY hard work and determination.

I cried, I laughed, I cheered... what a movie!

Will Smith always made me laugh, but I didn't know he had so much more in him. I think fatherhood brought this out of him. It's probably made him stronger and more nurturing. I'm sure having his own son as a co-star helped keep it real.

You know, that is a good point. That one scene in the bathroom is what made me muffle my cries. The agony on his face and in his eyes was heartbreaking. I am sure he was able to fully imagine what it was like to be this man, having to sleep in a men's room with his son. Jaden Smith was SO good in this role, too. I think they had a chemistry that is only possible with a real father and son. Thank goodness both can act!

I loved this movie. It was a very touching and emotional movie. I think you are right that this worked really well casting his real son to play the son in the movie.

Happyness

I've been wanting to rent this one, since it came out. Seeing this side of Will Smith is going to be a treat. I've been a fan of his since his t.v days. He has truly become a wonderful leading man.

I can't wait for you to see it! You'll have to report back once you do. If you like Will Smith, you are going to love this movie. I have always enjoyed him, too. I just think he and Jada are the cutest couple and they seem to be really happy. His abilities just really SHINE in this movie.

This was an amazing movie. Easily in my top best movies of all time.
I both loved and hated that he wasn't a perfect father. You saw him under pressure and stressed and snap at his son who didn't deserve it.
Over all, very inspiring.
