Your preference - Radio or MTV

Which do you prefer to listen to music... watch the MTV or simply switch on the radio? My preference would be to simply switch on the radio... Watching MTV is a waste of time for me...

Radio, if only because of the DJs on Radio 1 being either entertaining or having good taste in music, or occasionally both... MTV barely even shows music any more, though I managed to get addicted to Viva La Bam a bit when I was at home, and looking for something to watch after I got in from work...

For me I have to say that, as far as the mainstream goes, the answer is neither. Radio 1 and MTV both generally play pop/r 'n' b/hip-hop/dance etc and play very little rock or metal, which is my music of choice. And when they do they usually stick to the "safe" rock-pop bands. So I'm limited to digital stations such as Kerrang, which I hate because I can't stand the "Look at us. We're rebels!" attitude of Kerrang, but I have to endure it if I want to hear the music I like.

Personally I think Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe play good music, though admittedly you're not gonna hear any prog or metal outside of the new System track... I just use my Napster subscription and listen to whatever I fancy really...

I think they offer a memberships around $10-$15 a month or $.99 per track if you don't want to buy a membership.

-G-, I've heard from other subscribers that the quality of the music is poor?

Hmm, mine's fine, though I have the UK version, they're 128k WMA files though, which is pretty much the internet standard for audio.

Also, the UK version's £9.95/month to be able to download as many tracks as you like to your PC and £14.95/month to be able to put them on a compatible MP3 player. I just go for the £9.95, but I've never had any issues, and have been able to get the new Gorillaz, Weezer and Audioslave albums on here on the day of release legally for that much, which I can't complain about...

MTV has the habit of sending out commercials like the Crazy Frog and Brown The Bear every 2 minutes. Plus the music sucks most of the time.

Yeah, MTV's only ever worth watching when they're not actually showing music, but the occasional other show, like Pimp My Ride (I like the technical stuff on there) and Viva La Bam, but I don't know why I like that...

Radio as it gives me more choice over what genre I listen to.

I like classic rock, and MTV doesn't seem to play that. Also I can listen to the radio in my room, where as MTV only in our living room!
